I’m very proud to announce that this week Sifu’s Wayne Agnew and Russell Benham both became the first students to be awarded the 6th PG level in our Organisation. Both of them completed the Wing Chun system under myself around 3 years ago, however like most things in life, the more you practice the better you get, and this grade is a reflection of just that!
A lot of people see passing the 5th PG level as the end, where in fact it’s only the start. You’ve learned the system, and to most on lookers you’ll be extremely proficient at it. However for those that really understand Wing Chun, the key is to always remain a student of it, and to continuously push yourself to improve and master what you know, not sit back and relax on your grade.
So many people in Wing Chun these days are looking for the easy path, jumping from one thing to the next thinking that it will lead to them to becoming better, but the truth is, it’s better to master one idea than be average at many. It takes hard work, giving up evenings to train even when you’re tired, not letting yourself get distracted and focusing on your own personal training goals to name a few…
I’m very proud to have played a part in this, and got to know these two people well, as they both (like all our instructor team) really understand what it means to be a teacher and student of Wing Chun.
Well done to both of you – Sifu.
